The following information is being communicated on behalf of the NYS Office for Technology (OFT).
OFT has implemented a new policy regarding HSEN workstations that have not accessed the HSEN network for more than 30 days. It has been determined that these devices pose a serious security risk, as they do not have current anti-virus signatures, nor do they have current security patches applied.
Details of the Bulletin
To implement this new policy OFT will execute a script each day that will identify workstations that have not accessed the network for more than 30 days. The workstations identified by this script could include workstations that are unplugged, workstations that are plugged in but not turned on, or workstations that have been swapped out and declared surplus. OFT will disable the workstation and it will essentially become unusable. If workstations have not accessed the HSEN domain for a total of 60 days, they will be permanently deleted from accessing the HSEN network.
Action
The agency LAN Administrator will have the ability to reconnect the more than thirty day disabled workstation. However, if a workstation has not accessed the HSEN domain for a total of 60 days, they will be permanently deleted from accessing the HSEN network.
Please refer to the OFT bulletin for further information
The bulletin attached below is being forwarded on behalf of the Office for Technology (OFT) to inform you of problems that have been discovered when HSEN browser applications are run on equipment housing the newly released Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0. Microsoft recently released Internet Explorer version 7.0 as an upgrade to its current Internet Explorer software. OFT asks that you refrain from upgrading local equipment, or purchasing local equipment with Internet Explorer version 7.0 if that equipment will access State HSEN browser applications. They caution that no state equipment should be upgraded by agency LAN Administrators. OFT is currently analyzing this issue and further information will be forthcoming as they proceed toward a resolution. We thank you for your cooperation.
Please use the forms below whenever a change involving CONNECTIONS equipment is planned.
