Having a Voice and a Choice: New York State Handbook for Relatives Raising Children
This handbook, available for the first time in Spanish, was written for relatives who are raising or considering raising children in need of a stable home because their parents are unable to take care of them. It provides information on the various options available to relatives.
The latest English version includes minor revisions and an updated resource section. The handbook is a joint project of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.
A limited supply of handbooks (English and Spanish) has been sent to local social services districts for distribution to certain relatives. Others may read the handbook online or print out a copy. [Español]

The New York State Office of Children and Family Services is pleased to announce the release of the Community Reinvestment Program Request for Proposals (RFP). The purpose of the Community Reinvestment Program RFP is to expand the capacity of select target communities to divert youth, who have been arrested or are in custody, from entering detention & the juvenile justice system by expanding and enhancing community resources directed to target youth populations, ages 11-15. The RFP will fund the development of a program to provide an alternative to detention and residential placement for youth residing in high-risk communities in NYC, Long Island and Monroe County.
Up to $4 million will be awarded to succesful applicants, with individual awards ranging from $400,000 - $700,000. Proposals must be received by 3 pm February 11, 2010.

Commissioner Gladys Carrión, Esq., of the NYS Office of Children and Family Services today announced the award of $2,276,139 in contracts to seven agencies across New York State for Innovative Employment and Training Programs for more than 160 legally blind individuals.

The New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) initially released the Settlement House RFA on October 8, 2009 with an application due date of November 5, 2009. Questions and Answers were posted to the OnLine Bidders List (OBL) on October 22, 2009. In order to clarify eligibility and other requirements, revised Questions and Answers will be available on the OBL on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 5pm ET. The due date for applications has been revised to December 1, 2009 at 3:00pm ET. The contract start date has been
