Independent Living Services Program

Are you losing your sight or know a family member or friend who is? They may benefit from CBVH's Independent Living Services Program.

Individuals who are not eligible for vocational rehabilitation services and who are not receiving services through another CBVH Program may qualify to participate in the Independent Living Services Program. The program is designed to help individuals with low vision carry out day-to-day activities.

This program provides services through not-for-profit private organizations and from ophthalmologists and optometrists who are certified as low vision specialists. These services are provided based on individual need and may include: orientation and mobility services, rehabilitation teaching, low vision services and devices, social casework and adaptive equipment.

Adaptive Living Program

The Adaptive Living Program (ALP), is for people who need training and services to assist them in living at home and in the community.

In most cases, the consumer has to be over the age of 55, unless they have circumstances where they do not want to pursue employment. The ALP program provides Adjustment Counseling, Rehab Teaching, and Orientation & Mobility. CBVH contracts with a number of private agencies for the blind who go to consumer's homes to provide services. The primary benefit of this program is to allow senior citizens who are experiencing vision loss to function more independently in daily activities.
