The New York State Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS) is helping to develop mentoring collaborations across the state that help to connect caring adult mentors with youth.
OCFS participates in the Capital Region Mentoring Partnership (CRMP), a group of mentoring programs from the Capital District that has met since 2005 to find ways to advance quality mentoring. OCFS and CRMP co-hosted New York’s first statewide celebration of National Mentoring Month at the New York State Museum in Albany in January 2006, and a second celebration in January 2007 at Siena College.
OCFS helped develop mentoring partnerships in Onondaga and Steuben counties, and is lending a hand to the Monroe County Mentoring Roundtable. A goal for 2007 is to help Erie and Westchester counties develop mentoring partnerships.
Also, OCFS has been active with the New York City Mentoring Partnership (formed in 2003) and the Long Island Mentoring Partnership. Together, they represent about 200 mentoring programs and organizations that have embraced the notion of teamwork and collaboration as a way to develop quality mentoring services and programs, using the elements of effective practice.
