Safe Sleep Campaign Kicks Off
OCFS joined Albany County officials in kicking off a Safe Sleep public awareness campaign that will feature educational posters at CDTA bus shelters and on buses. Deputy Commissioner for Child Welfare Laura Velez represented OCFS, which helped fund the campaign. She noted that OCFS, under the direction of Commissioner Carrión, has made safe sleep for infants a top priority. These deaths are preventable and partnerships such as this with the Albany County Child Fatality Review Team will get the message out to caregivers of the risks associated with unsafe sleep. According to Velez, it’s as simple as A-B-C: have babies sleep ALONE, on their BACKS, in a CRIB. OCFS will also participate in an Albany County Task Force to consider other education and prevention strategies.
